My family has launched more new talent than entire Bollywood: Pooja Bhatt on nepotism

Pooja Bhatt has directed 2007 film “Dhokha” for her home banner.
Actor Pooja Bhatt on Wednesday said her home banner Vishesh Films, under father Mahesh and uncle Mukesh Bhatt, has done far more than the combined efforts of Bollywood in launching new talent across the board in the film industry.
The actor’s comments came as a response to the nepotism debate that has intensified after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Related News Her family has been at the receiving end of the divided social media discourse, with both her filmmaker father and her half-sister, actor Alia Bhatt being criticised for riding on the privileges of an insider.

“Have been asked to comment on the hot topic Nepotism that people are raging about. As someone who hails from a ‘family’ that has launched more new talent – actors, musicians and technicians than the entire film industry combined, I can only laugh. Facts don’t find takers. Fiction does,” the actor-filmmaker wrote.
Pooja Bhatt, 48, said her family always tries to scout new talent so much so that the banner was “accused” of harbouring bias against established names.
“There was a time when the Bhatts were accused of having something against established actors and made to feel inferior for only working withRead More…

Dismayed after govt decision to not allow cinemas to open under Unlock 2.0: Multiplex operators

Recently several production houses have released their films directly on OTT platforms which includes Amazon, Netflix bypassing theatrical releases as multiplexes are shut.
Cinema and multiplex operators have expressed dismay over the government’s decision to not allow screens to open in the second phase of unlocking and pointed out that an early decision in this may help mobilise resources in the film industry’s ecosystem. Cinemas are the backbone of the film industry accounting nearly 60 per cent of the film business and an early decision to allow them to open up will only help the mobilisation of resources in the ecosystem and would lead to gradual resurrection, the Multiplex Association Of India (MAI) said in a statement.

Movie premiere on OTT platforms: Why multiplexes are opposing 8

Movie premiere on OTT platforms: Why multiplexes are opposing

Film producers in India normally get their biggest share of returns from box office collections.
Multiplexes and movie theaters are closed for more than three and half months now due to the resurgent coronavirus outbreak and subsequent lockdowns imposed across the country. There is still no clarity on when they will be allowed to reopen. Also, the virus-induced fear psychosis is likely to impact the appetite of movie buffs Indians once multiplexes and movie theaters reopen their doors after situations permit. The government had also banned the shooting of new movies and TV serials, etc., in the wake Covid-19 situations in the country. Though shooting, in some states, has started with restrictions and adherence to social distancing norms, one has to wait for some time more before cheering his/her favourite actor on the big screen of a multiplex while munching popcorns.
However, the good news for the deprived cine lovers came during the mid-May. Director Shoojit Sircar announced that his movie Gulabo Sitabo would premier on Amazon Prime Video on June 12. Sircar said he decided not to sit with the film since it was ready. The deal with the Amazon Prime Video helped him pay the team. And he can now “move on to complete post-production work on their next.” Related News Amazon PrimeVideo also signed deals with different filmmakers to release six more films on its platform, including a biopic of Shakuntala Devi, starring popular actor Vidya Balan.
